The Project
The RBL project, located at the Colorado State University Foothills Research Campus, is a two story structure with a basement. The total building consists of approximately 82,225 square feet. The first floor contains Bio-containment laboratories, related prepetory rooms and work rooms. The basement and attic spaces are support for the operations of the first floor.
The basement area consists of the main electric room which contains the main distribution gear and distribution panels which feed the air handlers and the boilers located on this level and feeders to the panelboards that are located on the first floor and in the attic space. There are 11 air handlers and 2 boilers located in the basement.
The first floor contains two levels of containment, level 2 and level 3. In all level 3 areas the conduit and boxes must be installed surface and located on mounting blocks. This includes the fixtures and branch wiring to them. The level two area cave all branch and boxes located on the walls routed on the surface, however the fixtures in this area are grid mounted.
The attic contains additional ductwork, communications rooms, cable tray and branch conduits to the laboratories.
Scope of work includes the following:
- Emergency 2000KW generator. This entire facility is on generator backup, load shedding is available if needed to maintain positive air pressure for containment.
- Double ended 4000A switchgear with tie breaker. The feeders for a second normal feed to the building have been installed but the source does not exist at this time.
- MV Duct bank from Xcel Pole located at Rampart road extending 600’ to the MV Vault.
- 2500 KVA pad mounted transformer which steps the voltage to 480V for the building.
- Communications ductbank and communication vault. Backbone cabling will be installed into the attic communication room for distribution through out the building. Ludvik Electric will utilize a subcontractor to install a turnkey communications system throughout the building.
- All lighting in the building and site lighting will be installed under this contract. Existing poles will be removed and either reinstalled or turned over to the Owner as indicated on the contract drawings.
- Fire alarm detection and notification will be installed as shown on the contract documents and per NFPA 72.
- Lightning protection will be installed on the new building. Mr. Lightning will inspect the existing building to determine if a UL Master label will be obtainable if the two buildings are attached.
- A card access system will be installed by Key-Rite Security, Ludvik Electric will install all raceways and cabling per the security shop drawings. Key-Rite Security will provide all equipment, installation and terminations.
- A cabletray system will be installed in the attic space only, this tray will contain only low voltage cabling.
