DESIGN/ASSIST HOSPITAL & RENOVATIONS

Poudre Valley Hospital

Fort Collins, Colorado

Description of Work:

Additions and renovations to a major medical facility. Areas of work included central plant, emergency room, outpatient surgery, information services, pediatric patient rooms, kitchen, cafeteria, ultra-sound, and nuclear medicine.

Modifications to the central plant consisted of adding new chillers and boilers along with associated pumps and controls, emergency generator and automatic isolation by-pass transfer switches. Interfacing and connecting the new service to the existing equipment included detailed coordination of shut-down procedures with facilities services.

Coordinating was also required for additions to the existing low voltage systems so the equipment would interface with systems including fire alarm, nurse-call, code blue, sound and paging, intercom, MATV and cable tray.

Poudre Valley Hospital was a design build project. Ludvik Electric was a subcontractor working under Hensel Phelps. The electrical consultant was contracted to the architect, who in turn had a contract with the owner. This relationship caused some difficult positions when it was the responsibility of Ludvik Electric to provide and maintain the GMP. All problems were resolved and the project was completed within the GMP.
