FAST TRACK INDUSTRIAL & CONTROLS CF&I Steel Vacuum Tank Degasser/Ladle Refining Furnace Pueblo, Colorado |
|
| Description of Work: Vacuum Tank Degasser The vacuum tank degassing facility is designed to treat 125 ton ladles of steel. The main components of the vacuum degassing facility are a vacuum tank degassing unit, vacuum generating system, condenser cooling water treatment system and package steam boiler unit. This installation required close coordination, since steel production was uninterrupted and down time was limited to 21 days. The work included motor control centers, operator stations, local control panels, Allen Bradley logic controllers, grounding, lighting, HVAC, fire alarm, heat trace and power distribution.
Scheduling and coordination were a prime concern on this project due to limited down time for the existing furnace. The scope of work included replacing a 350 MCM 34.5KV feeder with a 500 MCM feeder plus protective devices and controls. The 500 MCM feeds a new LRF transformer vault. Two new 1000KVA substation transformers, both rated at 6.9KV primary and 480V secondary, were installed to furnish power to the metal stirring system. The control system required interconnecting of field sensing devices, programmable logic controllers, pulpits, control stations, local control panels and a copper data highway. A crane alignment system was installed to allow the crane operator to spot the ladles on a north/south, east/west axis with the aid of lights controlled by photo cells and limit switches. A Gaitronics Communication System was installed to give voice communication to key areas of the plant. |
