CLEANROOM EXPERIENCE
Description: The project consists of a complete electrical installation for a 178,000 square foot semi-conductor manufacturing facility containing 37,800 square feet of office area, 91,600 square feet of sub-fab process area, and 48,600 square feet of a Class I cleanroom. Due to the extremely rapid design and construction schedule, Ludvik Electric was commissioned to assist in the design of numerous electrical systems so that installation could run concurrently with design.
The electrical distribution system included six 3000 Amp 480 Volt services, six 3000 Amp 208 Volt services, forty-six motor control centers, 800 Amp 240 Volt plug-in busway serving cleanroom manufacturing equipment, lighting and power panelboards, step-down power transformers, isolation K rated transformers serving non-linear loads, and a 1200KW 480 Volt emergency generator feeding a 2000 Amp 480 Volt distribution system.
The lighting systems include exterior HID pole and wall mounted luminaries, ground mounted landscape lighting, parabolic office lighting, industrial lighting in sub-fab and utility areas, recessed and sealed lighting in cleanrooms, and an emergency egress lighting system.
The remaining electrical systems consist of convenience receptacles for non-specific loads, grounding and lighting protection systems, a fire detection and evacuation system, voice-data communication systems, security access control and surveillance systems, cleanroom make-up air and HEPA filter systems, air scrubber systems, a 75KVA UPS unit with distribution system, and a process instrumentation system.
The process instrumentation is fully controlled by a computerized Foxboro System. The electrical work includes instrumentation calibration and commissioning. The system provides control of air handlers, scrubbers, HEPA filters, humidifiers, high purity gas, and regeneration waste treatment systems.
The sub-fab process area contains a Class I, Division 1 gas cylinder and chemical storage area requiring an explosion-proof electrical installation.
